Should you rent a car in Santiago?
Decide based on trip shape, not by default.
- City-center stays rarely need a car
- Day trips can change the equation
- Parking and traffic matter more than rental price
Do not rent a car for Santiago itself.
If your trip is mostly urban, use the metro for longer jumps, then walk lastarria, bellas artes, providencia, or a chosen district once you arrive. keep the center and lastarria together, keep providencia and nearby districts together, and do not overstack city days with mountain or long winery logic. santiago works better when it stays balanced.
Renting becomes more interesting when you add countryside routes, beaches outside the center, or multi-stop regional loops.
