How transport works in Montevideo
Match the route to the shape of the city, not just the map.
- Group the day by area
- Use the simplest transfer
- Let walking and transit support each other
Public transport and walking are recommended
Keep Ciudad Vieja separate from Pocitos or Carrasco-style routes instead of flattening the city into one long cross-town day. A direct airport ride is usually the cleanest first move because it keeps the first day simple and the city is easiest once you are in the right district.
Most transport problems come from forcing too many district changes into one day rather than from the system itself.
