Should you rent a car in Chengdu?
Decide based on trip shape, not by default.
- City-center stays rarely need a car
- Day trips can change the equation
- Parking and traffic matter more than rental price
Do not rent a car for Chengdu itself.
If your trip is mostly urban, use the metro for the main skeleton, then walk the central districts once you are in the right zone. chengdu works best in district days. pair people's park, kuanzhai lanes, and nearby temple or museum logic, then give any panda or farther east-side route its own separate half-day.
Renting becomes more interesting when you add countryside routes, beaches outside the center, or multi-stop regional loops.
